Firmware upgrade

Product Version(s): SPC Connect 3.0

Topic last updated: January 2020

The Firmware Upgrade multisite operation enables an installer to upgrade the firmware on multiple SPC panels remotely.

The operation must be enabled for the relevant site group(s) (see below). Then, to use the operation, go to Operations > Multisite Operations, select a group of sites (All Sites/Favourite Sites/Site Group) with the operation enabled and navigate to the operation. You can select a subset of the sites to perform the firmware upgrade operation on. This enables you to test the automatic upgrade on a single site (or smaller group) before carrying out a more extensive upgrade. Once the Firmware Upgrade operation is manually initiated, it automatically upgrades all the SPC panels in the relevant site group in sequence. If the firmware fails to verify correctly on any panel, the automated process stops. You should investigate the source of the problem and re-initiate the upgrade operation once the issue is resolved.

The Firmware Upgrade operation supports:

  • Automatically and remotely upgrading firmware across multiple SPC panels in sequence (1000s possible).

  • Pre-checking existing SPC panels to verify that the upgrade is allowed and technically possible (e.g. verified full engineer and manufacturing access enabled).

  • Verifying the firmware upgrade (does the new firmware comes online after a restart, and was the upgrade successful).

  • Displaying live upgrade status during the upgrade.

Notes:

  • As with all alarm systems, it is mandatory to have a battery backup.

  • The SPC panel is resistant to power or communication glitches during the upgrade.

  • You should perform a configuration file backup before the upgrade starts (see Configuration manager).
